This preparation was introduced in Modica’s County during the Spanish
domination in Sicily in the 16th century. The Spanish people, in turn,
have landed it from the Aztec. Historically it has been handed down as
a typical sweet of the noble families that during holidays and important
occasions were preparing it at home. In this way it has been passed on till
our days and only afterwards it became a confectionery product known
all over the world.
